Cantor

Rabbi Mlotek has been immersed in Jewish music since childhood. He studied cantorial music at Yeshiva University’s Belz School of Jewish Music and strives to infuse soulful tunes into traditional liturgy. As a rabbi-in-training, he led prayer serves at Manhattan’s The Carlebach Shul and The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale. He has led high holiday services for Isabella Jewish Retreat Center, Base MNHTN, Base BKLYN and The Prospect Heights Shul.

“To say that the experience of davenen with R' Avram is merely delightful, deep, delicious, or deific - would be deceiving. It is that, but quite beyond. Though he is a consummate mensch, incredibly down to earth, connecting with every and any person, and staggeringly knowledgeable regarding the subtleties and necessities of Jewish traditions of prayer - there is another level beyond what's desired or required, a dimension that is difficult to describe in words…”

- Adam Segulah Sher, General Manager of Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center

“Avram Mlotek is dearly loved by a community many thousands of miles from New York – here in Melbourne, Australia. His voice and musicality are sublime and he always brought a beautiful and relatable kavanah (intention) to the experience so that it was both uplifting and heimish (homey). He was more than just a cantor on all three occasions – he delivered wonderful sermons and connected deeply and with remarkable kindness  and warmth with many members of the community in a very short time.”

- Mandi Katz, President of Shira-Melbourne, Australia

“Avram’s davening is a dream; he combines the musical traditions of traditional prayer, the East European world of Yiddish, the cultural revival of Hebrew music, with the contemporary sensibility of musicians like Leonard Cohen.”

- Mark Baker, Director of the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation at Monash University
